History provides many evidences of how scientific cooperation could help and bolster diplomatic ties and cultural exchanges between different nations. Condition of living in twenty-first century with all its complexities and development of means of communication, requires that we build a greater person to person or people-to-people relationships and this interaction can be made possible through cooperation in science & technology and collaborative science diplomacy. Collaboration in Science and diplomacy of science is not new, it is however, now broader, wider and in depth, and more visible than ever before and where its importance continues to grow. <br />Science and Technology are driving motors of modern societies towards process of globalization. Through science & technology diplomacy, geographical borders can be set aside beyond those of public diplomacy and where no obstacles stands in the way of scientific relations or prevent from development of such relationship for a longer duration. This paper presents a comprehensive definition of science & technology diplomacy and its crucial role in developing relations between countries. It also depicts Iran approach to this important notion and draw attention of both policy makers in all scientific & technological institutions & political organizations to such diplomacy. همکاری های علمی و فنآوری دانشمندان، روابط سیاسی و بین الملل کشور ها را تحت تاثیر قرار می دهد. تاریخ مبین شواهد و نمونه های است که همکاری های علمی روابط دیپلماتیک و تبادل فرهنگی را تقویت نموده است. در قرن بیست و یکم توسعه مستلزم روابط فرد با فرد یا به عبارتی مردم- با مردم است و همکاری های علمی و فنآوری این رابطه را ممکن و میسر می نماید. مقوله دیپلماسی علمی، موضوع تازه ای نیست بلکه در عصر کنونی تاحدودی وسیع تر و عمیق تر از گذشته شده و ضرورت آن ملموس تر شده است.علم و فنآوری موتور محرکه جوامع مدرن و محور اصلی در روند جهانی شدن است. به کمک دیپلماسی علمی مرزهای جغرافیایی بدون نیاز به دیپلماسی عمومی و روابط سیاسی کشورها در هم نوردیده می شود و هیچ مانعی در این مسیر پا برجا نمی ماند. در این نوشتار سعی شده است تا با بیان تعریف جامع از دیپلماسی علمی و فنآوری و کارکردهای مهم آن و همچنین رویکرد کشور به این موضوع، زمینه برای توجه و تمرکز بیش از پیش تمامی متولیان و تصمیم گیران موسسات علمی و فنآوری و دستگاههای سیاسی کشور فراهم شود.
